Malai Kulfi

​Malai Kulfi is a dish to please anybody who has sweet tooth.It is my mother-in-law’s one of the favorite dessert. Whenever she sees a kulfi shop, she will definitely have one. The satisfaction on her face is priceless..:-) 

It was her birthday, I decided to gift her with home made malai kulfi. I saw a 5 year kid in her while she was having it with so much love..That made my heart smile..:-)


Serves 10

Milk: 1/2 litre

Khoa/Khova- 2 cup, unsweetened

Sugar- 4 cups

Cornflour- 3 tspn

Sweetened condensed milk- 1 tin( need to adjust if using sweetened khoa/khova)

Cardamom: seeds powdered from 5 pods.

Cashew nut and almond: 1 cup, crushed.

Saffron: 1 pinch(optional)


  1. In a thick bottom pan, pour milk. Add sugar, cornflour and bring it to boil.

  2. Add condensed milk, khoa/khova. Stir it well in medium flame.

  3. Add saffron, powdered cardamom. Stir until it is reduced and has a thick texture.

  4. Add the crushed cashew and almond into it and let it cool.

  5. Pour the mix into the the kulfi mould.

  6. Freeze it overnight.

Tips: If trying for the first time, cut the quantity of the ingredients to half.
If there is left over mix, place it in a box and freeze it. It stays fresh atleast for a week. Serve it as icecream with fruits. You get a new dish, kulfi icecream with fruits.;-)
